In 2010, Yew Dell Botanical Gardens in Oldham County, Kentucky, earned national recognition when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and named one of America’s top Destination Gardens by Horticulture Magazine. When the gardens announced a renovation featuring custom steel elements, East & Westbrook Construction knew this was a project our Fabrication Shop was uniquely qualified to deliver.
East & Westbrook Construction takes pride in building lasting community partnerships. In fall 2024, our steel fabrication team partnered with E-Z Construction, serving as General Contractor, to bring the Yew Dell Board and Design Team’s vision to life. By spring 2025, this historic garden showcased innovative steel and concrete construction that blended seamlessly with the property’s natural beauty.
Every steel component in the Yew Dell project was crafted from weathered steel—a high-strength, low-alloy material known for its protective rust-like patina and durability. The project highlights included:
This was not a typical steel construction project. Unlike much of our fabrication work that’s embedded in concrete or hidden within structural framing, these steel features remain fully visible. This gave our skilled team the opportunity to demonstrate not only structural precision but also artistic craftsmanship in custom steelwork.
