POSITION SUMMARY

Prepares and installs reinforcing steel rods to support concrete structures in accordance with design/structural specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Uses machines, equipment and tools to shape steel rods for use in concrete
  • Spaces and fastens rods together in forms with necessary tools according to blueprints
  • Prepares, positions and secures steel bars, rods, cables and/or mesh in concrete forms using fasteners, rod-bending machines and/or hand tools
  • Determines quantities, sizes, shapes and locations of rods based on blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions and cuts rods to required lengths using various tools (i.e., metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, or acetylene torches)
  • Identifies and addresses potential safety hazards.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related industry experience.
  • Ability to learn and develop additional skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 10% walking, and 85% standing. The job is performed outdoors, indoors and in various geographic locations.
